Silk Products
All our silks are made by hand. The process is time-consuming and manually intensive. The raw silk is harvested from silk worms, and is then cleaned and hand woven into a fine thread. Once threaded, the silks are then woven using hand looms and manual labour. We use 2 kinds of silk.
Pure Silk:
This is made up of almost 100 percent silk. The weave and texture is thicker and stronger than that of mixed silks, and the fabric and colour gleams richly.
Mixed Silk:
This is made up of a combination of pure silk and rayon viscose. Rayon is a fabric made from a plant fibre, and was originally developed as an “artificial” or “wood” silk. The texture of our “mixed” silks are finer than that of the pure silks, and the addition of the rayon gives the fabric more strength that if the finer silk was woven alone. Mixed silks are usually used for patterned and fine plain mixed silk weaves.
None of our products contain polyester. All of our silk products are hand-dyed manually in quite basic conditions, and colours can vary according to: the silk was dyed and what the weather was kike when the silk was dried. As a result, variations in colour can occur during the production process. We endeavour to match dye lots as closely as possible, however exact colour matches are difficult to obtain.
One of silk’s natural beauties is the fact that the texture and colour can change slightly within a piece of fabric. Small variations in thread thickness and colour are not unusual, and should be seen as part of its natural beauty, rather than a “flaw”.
We know you will enjoy the natural beauty of our silk product.
